We are people working
in or receiving care at the front lines of
health care who have come together to seek
ways to transform medical practices. We are
in pursuit of vital and sustainable
practices that provide superb patient care.
Initially begun as a national collaborative
by The Institute for Healthcare Improvement
faculty John H Wasson and L Gordon Moore,
the work of Ideal Medical Practices has been
documented in Family Practice Management1
and The Joint Commission Journal on Quality
and Patient Safety.2
We are a nonprofit corporation formed to
educate and to further best medical practices.
Effective primary care is the basis of a
high functioning health care system.
Patients in high performing health systems
are more likely to say:
"I can get care
when I need it"
"I have a doctor or nurse who knows me"
"My doctor or nurse serves the bulk of
my needs"
"My doctor or nurse coordinates my care
throughout the health system"
The curriculum that was
trialed in the IMP project is available to
anyone now who would like to pursue practice
transformation. We have helped practices in
many fields and many sizes to improve their
access, efficiency, measurement, and other
processes.
Our nonprofit can provide expert faculty
and an effective teaching process to help
practices learn how to deliver effective
primary care. A self study program is
accessible to the smallest of practices.
Additional resources are also available
based on hundreds of practices'
experiences.

and it will also take you to a listserve

We hold an annual
conference called IMP Camp that includes
physicians and other health care providers
at all levels of the work.
